The trumpet-major

Anne spoke quickly. "I cannot speak to you about marriage," she said. "I'm sorry, John."

This story's stage is the south of England in 1804. Britain and France are at war. One day, Anne sees British soldiers are making their camp on the hill and meets John again. She likes Robert who is John's brother. However, John and Robert both love her. Who will she marry?
After reading this story, I thought that John is a very good man because he acts while thinking others feelings. Also, I was surprised that he hide his love for Anne due to his brother.
